About Save a Gato
Save A Gato (SAG) is a distinguished non-profit organization based in Old San Juan, established in 2004 with a vital mission to tackle the burgeoning feral cat population. Our primary approach involves Trap, Neuter & Release (TNR), which has proven immensely successful in reducing the cat colony by 50% since our inception. SAG holds a unique agreement with The National Park Service to oversee a colony of cats within national park grounds, notably around the Paseo del Morro pathway.
Our dedicated volunteers ensure that trapped cats are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and cared for daily, with emphasis on returning feral cats to their native habitats after treatment. While we are not a shelter, Save A Gato offers opportunities to foster and adopt cats undergoing the TNR process, including kittens, pregnant cats, and friendly adults. Our operations are solely sustained by generous donations and volunteer efforts, making a tangible difference in the well-being of Old San Juan's feline residents. Join us in our noble cause and make a meaningful impact on the lives of these precious cats.
