SAVIC

The South African Vaccination and Immunisation Centre (SAVIC) is an academic partnership established in 2003 at the Medical University of Southern Africa, now Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University. It brings together the National Department of Health, vaccine industry, academic institutions and other stakeholders to support vaccination and immunisation services in South Africa. SAVIC works closely with the National Department of Health and the World Health Organization, helping ensure that healthcare worker training follows national and WHO guidelines.

The centre’s programmes include education and training, operational research, technical support, advocacy and community outreach. SAVIC also offers vaccinology courses and shares resources through its library, publications and annual reports. Its work supports knowledge development and the implementation of immunisation activities, including efforts related to disease prevention and outbreak control. Through its partnerships and programmes, SAVIC serves healthcare workers and organisations involved in vaccination, while contributing to stronger immunisation services.
