About Saving Wildcats
Saving Wildcats (#SWAforLife) is a European partnership project dedicated to the conservation and recovery of Scottish wildcats. Our goal is to prevent the extinction of these incredible creatures by breeding and releasing them into the wild. Building on the successful work of Scottish Wildcat Action, our project aims to establish Britain's first large-scale dedicated conservation ‘breeding for release’ center for wildcats.
Located in the tranquil surroundings of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland's Highland Wildlife Park in the Cairngorms National Park, this center will bring together wildcat experts, a specialized veterinary unit, and a pre-release training program to equip wildcats with the necessary life skills for survival in the wild. Every year, we plan to release 20 wildcats, each fitted with a special GPS collar to monitor their movements and behaviors. Additionally, we are committed to removing threats to wildcats in the Highlands and working with local communities to ensure the coexistence of wildcats and humans.
