South Australian West Coast ACCHO Network

The South Australian West Coast ACCHO Network (SAWCAN) is a regional partnership established in 2020 by five Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs). Serving communities across the Eyre Peninsula and Far West Coast of South Australia, its network spans approximately 1,300 kilometres, from Whyalla to the Western Australian border. SAWCAN brings member organisations together to share knowledge and expertise, strengthen capability, coordinate regional initiatives and advocate on issues of shared importance. Its work supports ACCHOs in providing frontline health care and improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people and communities.

SAWCAN’s programs include the Aboriginal Disability Alliance, Culture Care Connect, Elder Care Support, Registered Nurse Backfill, Remote Community Connectors and Puyu Wiya, its Tackling Indigenous Smoking initiative. Puyu Wiya is community-led and encourages people to quit or reduce smoking and vaping through supportive, non-judgemental engagement. The network also promotes collaboration, workforce development and culturally responsive community initiatives. Guided by priorities identified by its members, SAWCAN works alongside communities to support positive change across the region.
