South African Women in Plumbing and Trades (SAWIPT) is a South African non-profit organisation working to increase the participation and advancement of women, young people, and people with disabilities in the trades sector. It advocates for trades as viable careers and aims to address barriers that limit access to training, business opportunities, and the wider trades value chain. Its vision also includes support for military veterans.
SAWIPT delivers tailored programs combining hands-on technical training, business skills development, mentoring, and facilitation support. Its services include assistance with financial planning and insurance through implementing partners, as well as support for small and medium-sized businesses. Programs include Activation Hub, which helps artisans build sustainable businesses, and Elevate, which offers mentorship, sector experience, and training for women and youth in plumbing and electrical businesses. CAT(her)LYST supports women already running plumbing businesses with marketing, sales, financial management, technical skills, and mentoring.
