About Sawiyan
Sawiyan is a community-driven brand offering an English language program tailored to the Sudanese and Somali communities in Amman. Founded in late 2018, Sawiyan's program, led by volunteer teachers like Mobarak Adam and Hassan Abdullahi, aims to equip learners with English skills crucial for resettlement to countries like the UK, the US, and Canada. Partnering with organizations like House of Hope and HelpAge International, Sawiyan provides classes that embrace critical pedagogy and promote racial empowerment through specially curated study materials.
Additionally, a recent partnership with the British Council enabled Sawiyan to offer a comprehensive 60-hour course to enhance teaching skills among community educators. Transitioning online due to COVID-19, Sawiyan now reaches a broader audience, with 202 students from 8 nationalities benefiting from their diverse online classes. To join the next semester, reach out to Sawiyan through their website.
