The Spectacled Bear Conservation Society Peru | Pítipo is a renowned brand dedicated to the conservation of spectacled bears, as well as the protection of their habitats. With ongoing research initiatives that started in 2008, they have identified two distinct bear populations: one in the equatorial dry forest and another in the montane forest and paramo ecosystems. Their research has been particularly fruitful in the dry forest, where the open landscape and arid climate provide optimal conditions for studying bear behavior and collecting valuable data.

In 2015, the society expanded their study area to higher elevation montane forests and paramo ecosystems, and were able to discover undocumented populations of spectacled bears and mountain tapirs. This led to an expansion of their conservation programs, which now focus on not only protecting spectacled bears, but also their habitats across various ecosystems. Their efforts in these ecosystems also benefit the conservation of mountain tapirs.

The society works across three distinct ecosystems, spanning elevations from 800 to 11,500 feet above sea level, ensuring a comprehensive approach to bear conservation.
