Somebody Who Cares Destiny Empowerment Center (SBWCDEC) is a community-focused organization working to empower youth and families and support sustainable development in Detroit. Its mission combines education, mentorship, supportive services, and access to basic needs, including food, hygiene products, clothing, household essentials, and emergency assistance.
The center offers programs addressing health, personal growth, education, and economic development. Its D.R.E.A.M. Health and Wellness Mentorship Program connects community members with diabetes education, screenings, nutrition guidance, and wellness resources, particularly for people with pre-diabetes or diabetes. The Confidence from the Inside Out Mentoring Program provides a supportive space for healing and growth, including self-care and self-esteem activities for girls and young women ages 14–18.
Youth programming includes The Choice Program, also presented as Stop • Think • Talk It Out, which uses mentorship, life-skills learning, and media arts to encourage positive decision-making. Summer enrichment activities include leadership development, social-emotional learning, and team building.
