About Scandinavia Facts
Scandinavian women of the Viking era were intelligent, hard-working, and resourceful. They played an important and central role in Viking culture. While they were primarily faithful wives and mothers who managed the home and helped on the farm, some Viking women conducted business and were master craftswomen.
There is even evidence to suggest that a few may have fought in combat, although this is less common. Viking women were sometimes buried with valuable goods, symbolizing their importance in society. They often married young, usually between the ages of 12 and 15, but they had a say in whom they married.
Viking women had rights, unlike many women in other ancient civilizations. They were able to own property and had a certain level of independence. To truly understand Viking women, it is important to separate fact from fiction, as much information comes from ancient legends and folklore
