Scarab Water

Scarab Water is a South African wastewater treatment company established in the early 2000s by Steve Nicol and his father, Gordon. Inspired by the dung beetle’s role in nature, the brand focuses on transforming domestic sewage into reusable water through practical, sustainable treatment technology. Scarab designs and installs septic systems and packaged wastewater treatment plants for residential, commercial and eco-sensitive developments, serving needs from individual homes to communities. Its systems are used at locations such as mines, schools, clinics, eco-estates, campsites, game lodges and housing developments across Africa and beyond.

Scarab describes its treatment plants as rugged, reliable and straightforward to operate and maintain, with designs intended to support efficient treatment without a post-treatment clarifier. The resulting treated water can be reused for garden irrigation, dust suppression, water features and toilet flushing. The company also highlights systems that can be serviced without shutting down treatment and are designed for long service life when properly protected from sunlight.
