SCELSE is the leading research center for biofilms and microbiome in Singapore, dedicated to discovering and understanding microbial communities for sustainable environmental, engineering, public health, and medical applications. With a strong focus on research, SCELSE aims to unravel the mechanisms behind biofilm establishment, development, structure, and function in various settings. They also strive to understand and control key aspects of biofilm biology in natural and engineered urban environments, host-microbe interactions, public health, and medical contexts.
SCELSE's research structure consists of multiple clusters, including Environmental Engineering, Meta-'omics & Microbiomes, Biofilm Biology, and Biofilms & Health. They also have an Integrative Analysis Unit that provides expertise in metagenome analysis and experimental design.
