About Schaal Greve History
Schaal Greve History is a family-history project created by Hans-Gerd Schaal and Rita Greve to document and share the stories of their families. Their digital chronicle begins with their first meeting in Hersdorf, a village in Germany’s Eifel region, in 1973, and centers on the family’s beloved blockhouse, a gathering place and repository of memories for more than 50 years. The site brings together genealogical research, personal recollections, local history, and family traditions.
Visitors can explore the Schaal family, including its paternal line and the history of the Schaalenhof, as well as Rita Greve’s family lines: Greve, Apel, Urban, and Müller. An interactive family tree traces ancestors and relatives across more than 1,200 people, with searches by name, place, and family relationship; its documented ancestry reaches back to the 16th century. Other offerings include stories about the Eifel, historical events, customs, and notable family members, plus a project overview, team information, a history and genealogy glossary, and details about the technology used
