Schaapskudde Orvelte

Schaapskudde Orvelte is a traditionally shepherded sheep flock based in the heart of Drenthe, the Netherlands. What began in Westerbork has flourished in Orvelte for a quarter of a century, supported by the people who help care for the flock and keep it going. The organization shares information about its sheep, grazing area, breed and shepherding team, and is also recognized as a breeding center. Its work connects traditional sheep husbandry with the surrounding landscape and local community.

Visitors can learn about the flock through events, including lamb-viewing days, sheep-shearing activities and the annual wool market. The site also features reflections on past events and highlights wool-related makers and studios associated with the Orvelte flock. People who want to contribute can become donors, adopt a sheep, volunteer or support the organization as a sponsor. Schaapskudde Orvelte also posts updates on social media and invites interested people to follow its activities and learn more about the flock and its environment.
