Schäfflertanz Dinkelscherben e.V. is a local organization dedicated to preserving and sharing Dinkelscherben’s historic Schäfflertanz, a traditional guild dance performed by coopers, or barrel makers. The custom began in the market town in 1893, inspired by the Munich Schäfflertanz, and has since developed into a distinctive local tradition. Alongside Nonnenhorn on Lake Constance, Dinkelscherben is home to one of Swabia’s oldest Schäfflertanz traditions.
The dance takes place only once every seven years, bringing performers and audiences together during the carnival season. The 2026 season includes public performances, beginning with an official opening dance in front of the town hall on January 4. The program features traditional figures such as the serpent, arbor, cross, crown, small circles, and changing formations. The organization’s website introduces the dance’s history, shares news and a photo gallery, and provides contact information. It also recognizes the donors and supporters who help sustain the tradition and invites visitors to follow the 2026 dance season on Instagram and Facebook.
