About Schichtl
Auf geht’s beim Schichtl is a traditional theatre and hospitality destination at Munich’s Oktoberfest, where its long-running show has been entertaining fairgoers since 1869. Described as the largest handmade spectacle on the Wiesn, the performance is known for its dramatic decapitation act, in which people appear to lose their heads each day. The Schichtl Theatre’s cultural heritage and enduring place in Bavarian tradition were officially recognised in 2026, when it was included in Bavaria’s register of intangible cultural heritage.
Visitors can find the theatre and the Wirtshaus im Schichtl under one roof in the Schaustellerstraße area of the Oktoberfest grounds, near the underground station. The venue brings together live entertainment and a traditional inn, offering guests a place to enjoy the show and hospitality during the festival. The website provides contact details for the theatre and a separate email address for inn reservations. Auf geht’s beim Schichtl welcomes visitors during the Oktoberfest season, with the 2026 festival scheduled from September 19 to October 4.
