Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area (SRG) is a brand that celebrates the cultural, historical, and industrial significance of the Schuylkill River watershed. Encompassing Schuylkill, Berks, Chester, Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties, SRG honors the region's pivotal role in the American, Industrial, and Environmental Revolutions. Designated by the United States Congress in 2000, SRG is a National Heritage Area where natural, cultural, historic, and recreational resources combine to create a unique and cohesive landscape that is nationally distinctive.
Prior to this, in 1995, it was named a Pennsylvania Heritage Area. With a mission to preserve and promote the region's legacy, SRG offers various programs and events. Visitors can explore the Schuylkill River Trail, an extensive network of trails showcasing the area's scenic beauty.
They can also participate in volunteer opportunities, enjoy art and education programs, and attend partner events. Managed by the Schuylkill River Greenway Association, a non-profit organization, SRG is dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of the Schuylkill River watershed for the enjoyment and education of present and future generations
