The Annette & Gerd Schwandner Foundation for Science and Culture is a nonprofit foundation established in 2007 by Dr. Annette Schwandner and Prof. Dr. Gerd Schwandner. Based in Oldenburg, Germany, it supports initiatives that advance scientific research, education, and culture. Its work is funded largely through additional personal donations from its founders, and the foundation reports that its endowment more than doubled during its first decade.
The foundation provides scholarships, particularly for students with outstanding academic achievement, and awards prizes and funding for research projects and scientific and cultural events. Promoting international exchange is a central focus, including support for students from abroad. Its activities have concentrated on Germany and China, especially Oldenburg and Hannover. Examples of supported projects include scholarships for European Studies students at Hong Kong Baptist University and for Tourism and Hospitality Management students at Beijing International Studies University, as well as prize funding for the 2016 Leibniz Harmonien competition in Hannover. The foundation combines educational support with opportunities for research and cultural engagement across borders.
