Science under Sail is a Norway-based non-profit organisation advancing ecological and biogeographical research through field science, expedition support, and science communication. Its work focuses on terrestrial ecosystems, macroecology, island biogeography, and the gradients that influence plant diversity, distribution, and evolution. The organisation’s field experience spans tropical to arctic environments, including Norway, the Alps, South Africa, Australia, and Panama.

Science under Sail supports research on land and at sea, with expeditions suited to projects involving water, rocks, fossils, plants, animals, and fungi. Its services include research logistics, fieldsite access with a low carbon footprint, wildlife surveys, tree climbing and canopy access, data collection and analysis, and support for writing and publication. It also develops research websites and apps and provides science communication and outreach.

Expeditions are supported by two Norwegian-built sailboats: SV Salka Valka, based in northern Spain, and SV Vildanden, based in western Norway. The organisation welcomes project collaborators and provides practical, research-ready workflows for field operations and analysis.
