The Council of the Isles of Scilly is seeking input from residents to inform long-term decisions about energy generation and usage in the area. They are conducting an energy attitudes survey, which will be used to develop a joint Local Area Energy Plan (LAEP) for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. This plan aims to transition the area's energy system to net zero and ensure affordable energy supplies within a specific timeframe.

The plan will address changes needed in local energy systems and infrastructure for heating, electricity, gas, and transport. The Council is working in collaboration with Cornwall Council to achieve carbon reduction objectives. The LAEP survey is crucial for shaping decisions related to offshore wind installations, domestic energy usage, and infrastructure placement, considering the islands' natural beauty, conservation status, and economic dependence on the environment.

Residents are encouraged to complete the survey, available on the 'Let's Talk Cornwall' website. The results will be published after the consultation closure. The LAEP's development is supported by a grant from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.

The Council will also select a representative sample of residents to sit on an energy panel and discuss decarbonization solutions.
