Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Buarcos

Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Buarcos is a long-established charitable institution serving the community of Buarcos, Portugal. Although the exact founding date of its brotherhood is unknown, records confirm that it existed by 1576, when it already had a church. Historically, the institution cared for people in need: parish records from the eighteenth century describe a hospital administered by its provider and members, which offered shelter to poor people and pilgrims.

The former albergue building later became the institution’s offices and retains a notable stone statue of Nossa Senhora da Expectação, also known as Nossa Senhora do Ó. Today, the organisation shares information about its history, governance, reports, heritage, and activities through its website. Its content includes news, community events, outings with seniors, interviews, and celebrations, alongside a gallery documenting religious processions and observances.

The institution also highlights the Igreja da Misericórdia de Buarcos and its cultural and spiritual heritage. Visitors can find contact details, institutional information, and updates about its work and activities
