About SCMC
Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Cascais is a community-focused social welfare institution in Cascais, Portugal, founded in 1551. Guided by the social doctrine of the Church, it works to address social needs, prevent hardship and promote a more inclusive society. Its support spans all ages, helping children, older people and families through a network of approximately 40 services.
The institution operates nine early-years and primary education establishments for children aged four months to ten years, alongside after-school activities and family support. Its services for older people include day centres, social and cultural activities, senior residences and home assistance. It also provides community programmes, temporary accommodation, health and social support, and services for people requiring care or inclusion support.
Through the Galiza Community Centre, it offers activities for vulnerable people of all ages, including study spaces and youth programmes. The organisation also runs a pharmacy offering nutrition, podiatry, osteopathy and acupuncture consultations, as well as Bom Apetite, a takeaway food service.
