About SCO
The Scottish Chamber Orchestra (SCO) is an internationally celebrated brand composed of a unique group of talented musicians who inspire and connect with people of all ages. Since its inception in 1974, the SCO has been known for its pioneering spirit, exceptional musicianship, and exceptional live performances. From classical masterworks to premieres by today's most exciting composers, the SCO brings outstanding music to audiences worldwide.
As the Orchestra approaches its 50th Anniversary in the 2023-24 Season, it eagerly anticipates celebrating with artists and audiences throughout Scotland. The SCO, led by the inspirational conductor Maxim Emelyanychev, is passionate about reimagining classical and romantic pieces, as well as sharing new and innovative contemporary commissions. The SCO is dedicated to sharing orchestral music by touring Scotland and the rest of the world, proudly representing Scottish cultural excellence.
The Orchestra not only performs on the concert platform but also engages with the community through its award-winning Creative Learning program, which takes them to schools, universities, hospitals, care homes, and community centers. The SCO's mission is fueled by the joy they see on people's faces when they play, as expressed by Sub-Principal Clarinetist William Stafford. By providing exceptional live performances and fostering a deep connection with their audiences, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra continues to make a significant contribution to Scottish cultural life
