The Scottish BPOC Writers Network (SBWN) supports Black writers and writers of colour who are based in, from or connected to Scotland. It works to connect these writers with Scotland’s wider literary sector through advocacy, networking, literary events and professional development opportunities. SBWN partners with literary organisations to encourage inclusive programming and address systemic barriers, while prioritising BPOC-led opportunities and making its work as accessible as possible to marginalised groups.

Its activities include writing workshops, open events, professional development days, commissions and opportunities for writers to develop their practice and connect with peers. The network also shares writers’ work through anthologies, zines and audio projects, including its Mixtape: Writers of Colour Audio Anthology series and Metaphors for a Black Future Zine. SBWN provides a bookshop, blog and online resources, alongside safer spaces information and ways to partner with the organisation. Through these programmes and platforms, SBWN champions diverse literary voices and helps build a more inclusive literary community in Scotland.
