Scribbiter

Scribbiter develops tools to help artists, photographers, and other creators protect their work from unauthorized AI training and copying. Its approach covers three stages: before a file is uploaded, while published work is online, and after copies have spread. ScribShield, the first product, is currently available in beta as a browser extension for Firefox and Chrome.

It lets users choose protections before uploading, including removing file metadata, adding visible or invisible watermarks, and applying protective noise intended to make artwork a poorer example for AI training. These changes are applied on the user’s machine as the file is uploaded. Removing metadata can also remove information such as camera settings and location.

ScribLink, a planned service in development, is intended to add a protective layer between published work and bots or other actors. Scribbiter also describes a later stage for using evidence from its earlier protections to help establish ownership when work is reposted.
