About Friends of the St. Clair River
Friends of the St. Clair River is a leading environmental non-profit organization based in St. Clair, Michigan.
Our mission is to protect and restore the St. Clair River watershed through community education, environmental monitoring, hands-on stewardship, and advocacy. We envision a future with blue water, green spaces, and clean air for all, forever.
Operating in St. Clair County, we work closely with partners on both the Canadian and American sides of the St. Clair River.
Our initiatives span various areas, including habitat stewardship, water quality monitoring, river cleanups, and responsible water-based recreation. By combining scientific research with watershed management efforts, we provide technical consultation on crucial water quality issues such as riparian habitat restoration, invasive species management, and green stormwater infrastructure improvements. Additionally, we stay informed about emerging and controversial issues such as excessive nutrient inputs, pharmaceuticals and microplastics, climate change impacts, and energy pipelines.
As a non-profit organization, we rely on contracts, sponsorships, grants, and donations to fund our projects. We serve as a fiduciary for local grant projects in collaboration with private, nonprofit, and public sectors. Our work influences decisions and actions made by local, regional, and state agencies through research-based data, community partnerships, and citizen science.
If you're passionate about protecting our watershed, you can join us as a volunteer steward, make a donation, or get involved in our events and programs. Together, we can make a difference in preserving the natural beauty of the St. Clair River for future generations
