Sculpture Saint John is a community-focused public art and education initiative that hosted international sculpture symposiums in Saint John, New Brunswick, from 2012 to 2022. Across five events, the organization brought artists of international stature together to create monumental sculptures in public view, giving visitors the chance to meet the artists and learn about the creative process. More than 125,000 people attended, and partner communities received lasting public artworks that reflect and complement their local cultures.
Education and public participation are central to Sculpture Saint John’s work. Its programs expanded to include school visits for more than 1,200 students, sculpting workshops for people of all ages, and free demonstrations by New Brunswick artists. In partnership with the Saint John Arts Centre, the initiative also offered interactive clay-building and soapstone-carving workshops, followed by a gallery exhibition of completed works. Volunteers contributed as guides, drivers, hosts, fundraisers, and organizers, helping make the symposiums a shared community event. The organization also provides information about artists, photo galleries, and a sculpture trail.
