The San Diego Education Association (SDEA) is a union representing thousands of educators serving students from pre-kindergarten through grade 12 in the San Diego Unified School District. Guided by the principle “Together We Are Stronger,” the association advocates for educators and supports members in understanding and exercising their workplace rights.
SDEA provides resources on union contracts, bargaining, grievances, and agreements with the school district, including materials for visiting teachers and special education educators. Its Know Your Rights guidance addresses topics such as maintenance requests, salary advancement, student discipline, restorative justice, and support for students with individualized education programs. Members can also access professional learning, scholarships and grants, membership benefits, and a welcome program for new educators.
The association shares updates through news, events, social media, and The Advocate, its publication covering union issues and analysis. SDEA also offers information about its governance, committees, history, staff, and affiliated organizations. Based in San Diego, the association works to connect educators, strengthen their collective voice, and provide practical support for their professional lives.
