With over two dozen member companies from the beverage industry and retail sector in Portugal, SDR Portugal is committed to managing the national Deposit and Refund System and contributing to Portugal's environmental goals. The system works by including a deposit in the price of beverage bottles, which consumers can then return to designated collection points to receive the deposit back.

The returned bottles are then collected, counted, and sorted at designated centers before being transformed into raw materials by recyclers. SDR Portugal's model emphasizes accessibility, transparency, and trust, and aims to have a positive impact on the environment and the national economy.
