Sea-Eye e.V. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving people in distress at sea on the Mediterranean migration route. Founded in response to deaths at Europe’s borders and the lack of safe routes, the organization carries out volunteer-led search and rescue missions, aiming to prevent people from drowning and help them reach a place of safety. Its work at sea includes locating boats in distress, distributing life jackets, evacuating people, providing medical care, and supplying food and drinking water.
Sea-Eye also relies on a broad community of supporters on land. Volunteers help organize rescue efforts, raise awareness, and advocate for safe routes and the protection of human life. Qualified crew members can join rotations aboard the rescue ship SEA-EYE 5, based in Licata, Sicily. Supporters can contribute through one-time or regular donations, fundraising campaigns, ship sponsorships, and membership of the Fördercrew, which provides ongoing financial support. Sea-Eye shares updates through news, events, documentaries, and a newsletter, and offers opportunities to get involved through its Landcrew, Seecrew, and Sea-Eye Academy.
