SEAFIC, the Southeast Asian Futures Initiative Centre, is a Malaysia-based think tank focused on economic development, trade, investment and regional cooperation across ASEAN. It produces research and strategic analysis to help inform discussion of the opportunities and challenges shaping Southeast Asia’s future. Its work spans topics including supply-chain vulnerability, urban household pressures, employment, energy security, data centres and the region’s food import bill.
SEAFIC shares its work through research reports, policy trackers, commentaries and its Futurist Weekly publication. It also convenes policy dialogues that bring together government agencies, researchers and industry participants to examine emerging issues. Recent discussions have addressed the compute economy, urban economic pressures, the future of jobs and the effects of global energy disruptions on ASEAN. Alongside its research and events, the centre publishes media coverage and press statements, and engages with regional organisations and partners. Through these activities, SEAFIC aims to support informed policy debate and a clearer understanding of economic change in Southeast Asia.
