Seagrass-Watch

Seagrass-Watch is a global seagrass observing network that partners scientists with citizens to accurately monitor the condition and trends of seagrass ecosystems. Established in 1998, Seagrass-Watch is a not-for-profit organization that conducts assessments at sites across 26 countries, involving thousands of dedicated participants. With over 5700 assessments conducted, it is one of the largest long-term seagrass observing programs globally and is highly recognized for its scientific rigor.

Participants in Seagrass-Watch come from various backgrounds, including universities, research institutions, government agencies, and non-government organizations, all sharing a common interest in marine conservation. The program aims to raise awareness about the condition and trend of nearshore seagrass ecosystems, provide early warnings of major coastal environmental changes, and protect valuable seagrass meadows along our coasts. Seagrass-Watch also supports education, science-based initiatives, and evidence-based policy solutions.
