CARTHE is a pioneering organization focused on oceanographic research, particularly in the context of tracking water movement in Arctic and Baltic Seas. As part of the BALTARCTIC experiment led by the University of Gdańsk, CARTHE deployed ten specialized CARTHE-type drifters in June 2024. These advanced drifters are designed to monitor the flow of Baltic waters towards the Arctic, following ocean currents within the upper 60 centimeters of the water column.

The deployment strategy, which involved releasing drifters across transects of the southern Norwegian continental shelf, aims to enhance our understanding of oceanic behaviors and their environmental impacts. The data collected is crucial for scientific analysis, providing raw positions monitored at ten-minute intervals until September 2024. This dataset is accessible in NetCDF format and plays a significant role in physical oceanography, contributing valuable insights into surface water dynamics and ocean currents.
