Seashell is a national learning disability charity supporting disabled children and young adults with the most complex needs. Based in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport, the organisation combines specialist education, care and supported living, while also providing expertise and services to families and professionals across the UK. Its work is shaped around each young person’s needs and aims to support their development, independence and quality of life.
Seashell operates Royal School Manchester, a specialist school for children and young people with profound and complex educational needs, and Royal College Manchester, which provides education and care for young adults with complex disabilities. Its services include residential homes, short breaks and respite care, alongside on-site therapy, nursing and behaviour support. Seashell also offers family support, admissions guidance, inclusive sports and physical activities through Seashell Active, and external services such as specialist training, deafblindness support and autism and FASD expertise.
The charity serves people with severe to profound learning disabilities and may support additional needs including sensory impairment, autism and complex physical health conditions.
