The Seattle Flu Alliance is a respiratory disease research initiative focused on understanding how viruses spread and evolve, and sharing findings to help prevent illness and death. Led by researchers who conducted the Seattle Flu Study, the Alliance expands research into how viruses such as COVID-19 and influenza are detected, monitored, and controlled. Its work includes opportunities for community participation.
King County residents can complete a weekly symptoms survey to help researchers track respiratory illness. The Brotman Baty Institute and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center are collaborating on an antibody and immunity study examining immune responses to respiratory illnesses. University of Washington students, faculty, and staff may also participate in Husky Coronavirus Testing research, which studies COVID-19 spread in the campus community; participants answer questions and may be offered a test.
The Alliance encourages participation across ages, races, ethnicities, and neighborhoods, and notes that taking part can be safe and easy from home
