About Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina
Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina (SHMETROLINA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating hunger in the community. Since 1981, SHMETROLINA has been actively working to provide food and grocery items to charitable agencies that assist those in need. They also offer training, technical assistance, and hunger education to their partner agencies.
Covering a total of 24 counties in North and South Carolina, SHMETROLINA serves a wide range of communities. Their partner agencies include soup kitchens, emergency pantries, homeless shelters, senior programs, and low-income daycares, ensuring that help reaches those most in need. Annually, SHMETROLINA distributes an impressive 75 million pounds of food and household items throughout their service region, with fresh produce, meat, and dairy accounting for over 41 million pounds.
Their dedicated efforts support over 489,000 people, including 159,000 children and 52,000 seniors living in poverty. To carry out their mission, SHMETROLINA relies on donations. Approximately 75% of the food they distribute is donated, while 7% is purchased, and 18% comes from government commodities.
They operate through their main warehouse in Charlotte and additional branches in Hickory, Spartanburg, and Anderson. Join Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina in their fight against hunger by donating money, food, or your time. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our neighbors in need
