Second Melt is a brand that aims to create stunning home goods while addressing the issue of plastic waste. They specialize in upcycling litter and beach plastic to produce unique and eco-friendly products. All of their items are carbon negative and machine washable, ensuring sustainability and convenience.

The brand was founded by J. Anderson, whose inspiration came from encountering various factors during a family vacation to Hawaii in 2019. With China changing their requirements for foreign recyclables and causing a recycling industry bottleneck, and organizations like 4Ocean funding beach cleanups, Anderson decided to take action.

Cleaning up the beach and bringing the plastic home, the first Second Melt coaster was born. Second Melt's process involves removing litter from streets, waterways, and beaches, followed by the washing and sorting of the plastic by density. It is then combined with shredded postconsumer packaging as a filler.

Using injection molding in laser cut molds, the plastic is transformed into beautifully crafted objects, which are then sanded for a polished finish. With a commitment to recycling and sustainability, Second Melt offers a range of products that include custom upcycled CD records, soap dishes, and hexagon soap dishes/coasters. They also have a future product, Styro-Phone, set to launch in Q2 2023.
