About seescience.org
SEES (Synchrotron and Electron Environment Science) is a pioneering organization formed on September 1, 2023, under the National Science Foundation's Division of Earth Sciences. It serves as the central management hub for synchrotron beamlines, including former COMPRES and GSECARS facilities. SEES is dedicated to advancing research in environmental science, low temperature geochemistry, and rock deformation through sophisticated synchrotron radiation applications. The organization operates several leading synchrotron facilities, such as the Advanced Light Source at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the National Synchrotron Light Source II at Brookhaven National Laboratory.
Led by Professor Andrew Campbell from the University of Chicago, SEES ensures efficient facility operations through a Chief Technology Officer and a dedicated team of facility directors. The organization fosters a collaborative user community, focusing on education and outreach to enhance user engagement in scientific research. SEES actively supports scientists and students through comprehensive programs aimed at developing innovative capabilities and addressing pressing scientific challenges in Earth sciences.
