About Special Education Foundation
The Special Education Foundation (SEF) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization supporting students with disabilities in St. Louis County. Working alongside the Special School District of St. Louis County, it helps students achieve success by providing resources and opportunities that tax dollars do not cover. Its programs serve students, families, and educators, with a focus on learning, inclusion, independence, and essential needs.
SEF funds adaptive and assistive equipment, including hearing aids, communication devices, and eyeglasses, and offers emergency assistance through its Student Aid Fund for Emergencies. Other programs include Classroom Innovation Grants, Arts in the Classroom, Kid-to-Camp, scholarships, and leadership and independence initiatives such as the Fred Saigh Leadership Academy and Autism Independence Project. The foundation also supports audiology and vision services, principal grants, and student aid.
Community members can contribute through donations, volunteering, and fundraising events, including the Dan McLaughlin Charity Golf Tournament and Auction. SEF also recognizes educators, staff, volunteers, and community partners through the Starfish Awards.
