SEKES, formally Suomen Elinkeino- ja Kehitysyhtiöt SEKES ry, is a Finnish association that brings together regional economic and development companies. Its mission is to strengthen the competitiveness of businesses and regions by supporting the vitality work of the municipalities that own these companies. SEKES promotes the role of development companies in creating regional and national vitality through profitable business activity.
The association supports its members by developing the content of development-company services and encouraging peer learning and the sharing of effective practices. It provides information, events, webinars, studies, contacts and service packages, as well as ideas and tools to help members improve their work. Members can also draw on the managing director’s support for events and coaching, and access a shared knowledge bank on development-company and regional vitality activities.
SEKES works to raise awareness of the development-company model and strengthen its place within Finland’s national business services. It also supports simpler business-service pathways and partnerships, including links with the Team Finland network, and advocates on regional vitality issues alongside organisations such as the Association of Finnish Municipalities and the Federation of Finnish Enterprises.
