SNS Portal is a semantic networking service provided by the Federal Environment Agency, dedicated to improving access to environmental information. With a robust framework built on the comprehensive environmental thesaurus, UMTHES, which contains over 50,000 interconnected terms, SNS facilitates the effective categorization and retrieval of environmental data. The platform supports users in finding semantically similar terms and relevant keywords, thereby enhancing the searchability of environmental documents.

SNS is designed for seamless integration into existing environmental information systems, offering APIs and documentation for easy incorporation into third-party applications. This service not only aids individual users but also promotes a standardized vocabulary across various systems and organizations. By ensuring consistency in terminology, SNS enhances the discoverability of information and fosters better connections between related environmental topics. Accessible to the public under the CC BY-NC 4.0 license, SNS represents a significant step towards streamlined information management in the environmental sector.
