Cyd is an open-source software project developed by Lockdown Systems, a worker-owned collective, to help people regain control of their information on social platforms. Its tools let users back up, search, and manage their data from X, formerly Twitter, and Bluesky. Cyd can save a searchable copy locally on a computer or phone, delete tweets, likes, and other data from X, and remove posts, likes, chats, and other data from Bluesky. Users can also migrate tweets from X to Bluesky.
Privacy is central to Cyd’s approach: the software runs directly on the user’s device rather than on Cyd’s servers, and the project says it cannot access users’ accounts or data. Cyd is designed to avoid dependence on third-party APIs from platforms it describes as hostile, while using Bluesky’s API. The project’s source code is available on GitHub. Cyd is supported fiscally by Lucy Parsons Labs, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and offers documentation, pricing information, and a development blog.
