Sententiae Antiquae

Sententiae Antiquae is a classical scholarship website featuring essays, projects, and commentary on ancient literature and its interpretation. Its content explores Greek and Roman texts, with particular attention to Homeric epic, including the Iliad and the Odyssey. Articles connect close readings of ancient passages with broader questions about human agency, fate, divine influence, psychology, and the ways cultural assumptions shape modern interpretations.

The site also presents a range of projects and educational material, including A History of Classical Scholarship, with a preface and chapter listings, as well as posts on topics such as paradoxography, ancient historians, literary works, and classical reception. A series on the Iliad highlights scholarship and examines themes across the poem’s books. The writing draws on ancient Greek and Latin sources and engages with modern scholarly debates, making the site a resource for readers interested in classical studies. Sententiae Antiquae also provides an About page, a project menu, and contact information for visitors seeking to learn more or get in touch.
