The Sephardic Jewish Brotherhood of America is the largest Sephardic benevolent organization in the United States. Established in 1916 by Jewish immigrants from Ottoman lands, the Brotherhood is dedicated to serving the most needy in our community and providing a home for Sephardic Jews from around the world. Unlike Ashkenazi Jews and Arabic-speaking Jews, Sephardic Jews trace their lineage back to Spain, where they developed Ladino (Judeo-Espanyol), a unique language that combines biblical Hebrew with old Catalan Spanish, Greek, Turkish, and Arabic elements.

After the Spanish Inquisition in 1492, these communities brought their language, culture, liturgy, and traditions with them to the Ottoman lands of the Balkans, eventually immigrating to the United States in the early 20th century. Originally a mutual aid and burial society, the Brotherhood expanded its mission over the years. Today, it serves nearly 1,000 families across the United States and continues to support the Sephardic community through a range of programs and initiatives.

These include a Sephardic Birthright Israel Trip, the annual Greek Jewish Festival, and the Greek Jewish & Sephardic Young Professionals Network. As the Brotherhood celebrates its 100th anniversary, it remains committed to supporting and uniting Sephardic families worldwide for years to come
