The Science and Environmental Policy Project (SEPP) is a nonprofit, tax-exempt educational organization established in 1990 by S. Fred Singer and incorporated in Virginia. It promotes what it describes as objective science based on hard evidence, examining government environmental and related policies, including energy policy, for their use of rigorous scientific methods.
SEPP aims to educate politicians, the media, and the public about evaluating scientific evidence, databases, and models used in policymaking. Its work questions whether data are comprehensive and reliable, and whether models have been properly tested against relevant evidence. In 2007, SEPP established the Non-governmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC) to present a response to claims made by the UN-IPCC about fossil fuels, carbon dioxide, and climate risks.
The organization publishes a weekly newsletter, “The Week That Was,” and shares reports, policy commentary, and information about its Frederick Seitz Award and annual April Fool’s Award. SEPP says it is funded by individuals and small foundation contributions, and offers its website materials for non-commercial use
