About Sera Jey Foundation
The Sera Jey Foundation is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Tibetan Buddhism through the Sera Jey Monastic University for Advanced Buddhist Studies and Practice. Founded in the early 15th century by the venerable Kunkhen Lodroe Rinchen Senge, the foundation adheres to the Gelugpa monastic tradition established by Lama Tsong Khapa. Today, Sera Jey Monastery stands as one of the largest and premier institutes for traditional Tibetan Buddhist studies, housing over 4,800 monks in South India’s Karnataka state.
The foundation offers a range of educational services and projects aimed at supporting the monks and their rigorous monastic curriculum, which emphasizes learning and spiritual development. Regular funding is essential for maintaining these educational activities and supporting the monks' needs. The foundation actively encourages community involvement through donations and volunteer opportunities, fostering a sense of global Buddhist community. Through these efforts, the Sera Jey Foundation continuously honors its centuries-old traditions while adapting to modern educational demands.
