About Pertubuhan Pemuliharaan Biodiversiti Sabah
Pertubuhan Pemuliharaan Biodiversiti Sabah, also known as Seratu Aatai, is a registered organization established in December 2018 under the Registry of Society Malaysia (ROS). Derived from the Sungai lingo, meaning solidarity, Seratu Aatai aims to create a society that is capable and willing to protect and coexist with elephants. With more than 15 years of experience working with Bornean elephants, Dr.
Nurzhafarina Othman, the founder of Seratu Aatai, realized that short-term mitigation measures were no longer effective in mitigating human-elephant conflicts. In response, Seratu Aatai collaborates with various stakeholders, locally and internationally, to develop a strategy that balances the needs of elephant conservation and socio-economic benefits. By considering the ecological needs of the elephants and the underlying social, cultural, and economic context, they strive to find sustainable solutions.
