Setlementti Toivola

Setlementti Toivola is a nonprofit, multi-sector organisation based in Kemi, in Finland’s Meri-Lappi region. It works to promote wellbeing, inclusion and community life, guided by the values of equality, belonging, respect for diversity and appreciation of every person. Its work began in 1923 and continues to adapt to the needs of the local community.

The organisation operates three main services. Service Centre Purola provides communal housing and services for older people, along with rental homes, housing advice and support, resident activities, a daily kitchen, catering and venue hire. Wellbeing services include a hair salon, foot care and physiotherapy. Multicultural Centre Mikseri is an open meeting place and develops multicultural work, offering opportunities to join groups, spend time together and talk. Meri-Lappi Association Centre Silta supports local associations and volunteers with practical help and advice, and works to develop association activities. Together, these services span elder care, housing support, multicultural work and the strengthening of community organisations across Kemi and Meri-Lappi.
