About Nevada Museum of Art
Ugo Rondinone's "Seven Magic Mountains" is a stunning large-scale public art installation located in the Nevada desert, approximately ten miles south of Las Vegas. Comprising seven towering totems, each standing 30 to 35 feet high and crafted from painted local boulders, this vibrant exhibit critiques the juxtaposition of nature and urban artifice. Set against the dramatic backdrop of mountain ranges and Jean Dry Lake, it captures the essence of both the natural and the synthetic worlds, symbolizing the interplay between the constant flow of traffic on Interstate 15 and the serene desert landscape.
Produced by the Art Production Fund and the Nevada Museum of Art, "Seven Magic Mountains" is not only a visual feast but also a platform for community engagement, with many programs hosted at partner locations, including ARIA Resort & Casino and the Marjorie Barrick Museum at UNLV. This transformative art piece reflects Rondinone's exploration of human emotion and our relationship with nature, affirming his position as a significant figure in contemporary art.
