Sewarural

SEWA Rural is a voluntary development organization working in the rural and predominantly tribal region of Jhagadia, South Gujarat. Established in 1980 by young professionals inspired by the ideas of Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi, it focuses on serving vulnerable communities while promoting transparency, equality, religious harmony, and employee development.

Its health services include Kasturba Hospital, a charitable multispecialty hospital providing care for rural and tribal patients, and a comprehensive eye care project serving communities across Bharuch. The organization also conducts community health and research initiatives, adolescent health awareness and screening programmes, and health training through its modern training and resource centre.

Beyond healthcare, SEWA Rural supports women’s empowerment through educational and economic programmes delivered with Sharda Mahila Vikas Society. Its Vivekanand Gramin Tekniki Kendra provides vocational skills training intended to help young people access employment and improve their livelihoods. Across its programmes, the organization addresses health, education, poverty alleviation, skills development, and women’s empowerment, combining direct services with community-based development efforts.
