Europaparlamentet (EP) serves as one of the key legislative institutions of the European Union (EU), representing the interests of citizens across its 27 member states. This significant body is composed of 720 members who are elected every five years through direct elections, functioning similarly to an underhouse in a bicameral system. Established on November 1, 1993, the EU itself emerged as a pivotal alliance aimed at promoting peace and reminding Europe of its shared history post-World War II. The Parliament plays a crucial role in shaping legislation affecting the entire union, fostering integration and collaboration among member nations. The institution addresses vital areas such as economic policy, environmental regulation, and civil rights, ensuring that the diverse voices of European citizens are heard and considered in the legislative process. Committed to transparency and accessibility, Europaparlamentet is instrumental in guiding policies that impact millions and is a cornerstone in the ongoing narrative of European unity and cooperation.
